After completing a feasibility study, master plan and facility program for the University of Utah’s L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Research Institute, NBBJ, along with EDA Architects, was chosen by the university and Jacobsen Construction to design a hub for translational research and a front door to the Health Sciences district.
The new facility offers research spaces designed for flexibility, efficiency and collaboration. A four-story atrium links the new building to the existing Skaggs Hall and provides the college with a lively, interactive space where students and faculty can meet to discuss their research or simply socialize.
With a target to obtain LEED Gold certification, the design team collaborated with Atelier Ten to increase performance and reduce energy consumption. Sustainability strategies reflecting the building program, local climate, and massing are projected to reduce energy consumption by 23% and electrical consumption by 21%, or $7.5 million over 50 years.
For this project, Pohl Engineering LLC / Rainscreen Solutions LLC was pleased to provide engineering service for metal panel’s façade system. For more information please visit here and here.
